How it works

From order to live tracking — in under a week.

Every Wildtrackapp tag arrives ready to fit. No SIM swapping, no IMEI dramas, no app setup wizards. You order it, we configure it, you fit it like a normal ear tag — and you're tracking.

1. Order your starter pack

Pick a starter pack or additional tags on the pricing page and pay securely with card. R1,999 once-off gets you one tag, the app and setup.

2. We ship it ready-to-go

Every tag arrives pre-configured. Connectivity is already active and the IMEI is registered to your Wildtrackapp account before it leaves us.

3. Scan, pair and fit

Open the app, scan the barcode on the tag, give the animal a name or ear-tag number — then fit the tag like any normal ear tag. First ping arrives within minutes.

4. Watch them live on your map

See every animal on a satellite map of your farm. Draw camps, allocate animals, and follow real GPS pings — never demo data.

5. Get alerts that matter

Pushed and emailed when an animal leaves a camp, when a tag goes quiet, or when something looks off.

6. Prove every move

A full lifetime movement record per animal. Download a PDF for Karoo lamb certification, food-board audits or insurance.

Farmer's guide

Fitting the tag — exactly like a normal ear tag.

No special tools. Standard ear-tag applicator. Nine simple steps from open the box to live ping.

  1. 1

    Restrain the animal calmly

Use your normal crush, race or holding pen. A calm animal makes a clean fit.

  2. 2

    Pick the correct ear

Left ear is standard for Wildtrackapp tags. Keeps your records consistent across the herd.

  3. 3

    Find the sweet spot

Between the two cartilage ribs, roughly one-third in from the head. Avoid blood vessels — you'll see them clearly against the light.

  4. 4

    Clean the area

Wipe with a surgical spirit swab. A clean fit means no infection and a tag that stays put for years.

  5. 5

    Load the applicator

The Wildtrackapp tag uses a standard Allflex / Datamars-style applicator. Male pin in the front jaw, female (electronic) panel in the back jaw — never the other way around.

  6. 6

    Position and squeeze

Line up the pin with your chosen spot, squeeze the applicator firmly in one motion, and release. Don't 'tap' it — one clean squeeze.

  7. 7

    Check the fit

Tag should rotate freely with a small gap (about a matchstick's width) between the panel and the ear. Too tight will cause swelling.

  8. 8

    Spray with antiseptic

A quick spray of wound spray or iodine on both sides finishes the job.

  9. 9

    Confirm it's live

Open the Wildtrackapp app. Within a few minutes the tag's first ping should appear on your farm map. Done.

Tag not pinging after an hour? Check the animal isn't in a deep gully or steel shed. Walk it to open sky for 10 minutes and the first ping should land. If still nothing, email admin@wildtrackapp.com with the tag number and we'll check it remotely.
